The center party is growing like mold on a pile of shit!

Now that the winter days are at their darkest and gloom is gathering over Iceland, one small political party has managed to grow like mold on horse manure and is now among the largest parties according to opinion polls.

This party is called "Miðflokkurinn" It is a center-right populist political party that emphasizes ancient national values, rural issues and criticism of immigration. The party has been criticized for racist and xenophobic statements from some members. Members of parliament have made derogatory comments about women, the disabled and homosexuals. Some critics compare the party's policies to nationalist populism.

The party is fond of Trumpism and is hostile to the European Union, but does not provide any information about its foreign policy, but based on the rhetoric of some party members, the party seems to favor a pure-Aryan policy.

The chairman Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson has expressed his positivity towards Donald Trump, for example by proposing to invite him to Iceland and award him an award at the party's national convention in 2025, but Trump did not attend the party convention.

Critics have accused the Center Party of sending leaders to the United States to learn from MAGA tactics, such as populism and direct attacks on the "elite" to reach the "people at the kitchen table"). This has been called the "Trump method" in Icelandic politics, especially in immigration and patriotism.

The party is considered by many analysts to be nationalist populist, with an emphasis on strict immigration policies, opposition to the EU, and "common sense" against the "elite" and international institutions - elements reminiscent of Trumpism. In its own view, the party is primarily an Icelandic center-right agrarian party with roots in rural issues. (Split from the Progressive Party)
The party is now popular (over 20% in some 2025 polls) without being directly a "Trump party".
