Now's a good facility for mobile homes and campers at the Eyrarbakki campsite. It could be a good idea to stay there for a while, as much to see and enjoy in the vicinity. Abundant birdlife and extensive nature is something that makes you stop on a long journey. The little and old houses are also very intriguing, especially a nice to photograph them.

April in Iceland, South Coast

It's easy to get a rental car at Keflavik airport, and it is ideal to go to the first stage to the old Eyrarbakki and stay there for a moment and look around.  Accommodation is possible in the area.

When traveling on Highway 1 to the east will be many beautiful waterfalls along the way.

After a few hours of driving through the south coast is up to the biggest glacier in Europe "Vatnajökull". The area is a national park.

One of the most intriguing natural wonder is the Ice -"lagoon". In April, it is nearly full of icebergs, but still beautiful. A few hotels can find in this area

Silent winter

The old village sleeps for the winter. Travelers are not many at this time of year, although winter can be a pleasurable experience. But spring is on its way very soon.

Thus Eyrarbakki

An old drawing by Halldor Petursson shows life in the old Eyrarbakki, Iceland chariot horses, Icelandic dog, children and people working at a small store. This shop is still operating and selling mainly souvenirs.

Gavia immer (Himbrimi)

There are not many birds of the species "Gavia immer" in Iceland, maybe a couple hundred pairs, and this is a sensitive type. Often gets the trout nets and sometimes shot. In winter, the gaps have been cut when the oil spill have been in the sea. They lay only two eggs is common to only one pup survives. This bird was seen in the village recently. The bird is in winter clothing, but the summer clothes are however much more decorative.

The old street has almost not changed over the centuries. Thus Eyrarbakki, always the same.

This old man is no longer collecting hay in his spot. But the spot is still the same place and some other old man will beat spot ever.

A new way to Eyrarbakki

A new road has been opened from Keflavik Airport to Eyrarbakki. The road leads by the seashore and is in very nice surroundings. The road enables visitors to travel to the south coast where Eyrarbakki town offers visitors welcome. Free bus travel between villages and downtown center many times a day.

Icelanders have not been diligent in protest, but last years they learned that it pays not to sit home and do nothing. It's now been the object usury loan terms for people who buy houses. Households who need to borrow are made available rights and loansharks companies have the right to receive assets of people in debt. They calculate the properties lowest price and sell back at the highest price. It's time for change, hope and dignity of ordinary people will rise up.

The autumn is coming soon

It was a festive time of sheep-farmers when the sheep were running from the mountains and home to the country gathering.

Katla will not sleep longer.

A multitude of earthquakes in the volcano Katla causes people to fear a major eruption of the volcano is expected soon. Scientists monitoring the volcano will
not tell exactly whether the risk is to the future. But the outlook is that Katla is equipped to sleep enough.

Kinds of figures were in many gardens.

The summer has been nice and sunny. Many tourists have visited Eyrarbakki and the surrounding area in summer, there were held two summer festivals in the best weather and charming environment. Now the main travel time has passed and the old town will be back as usual. Here are some pictures from this fine summer.

The popular summer festival in Eyrarbakki

13 and 14 August 2011, The summer festival will be held on Eyrarbakki. The theme of the festival is traditionally, the 19th century Eyrarbakki. Icelandic clothing of that time will become prominent and national dances. Exhibitions are held, such as beauty of Icelandic chickens.

Katla wake up ?

It is likely that the eruption of the volcano Katla as started. For security describes the State Police give a warnig after flasflood in Múlakvísl. Bridge over the river Múlakvísl is gone. Mainroad 1 is closet.

Later in the day was considered possible for a litle eruption shot under the glacier Myrdalsjokull near the volcano Katla, and this has stopped now, but it can take many weeks to rebild the bridge.

Orange allert for Hekla volcano

It is thought likely Hekla volcano will erupt in this year. Scientists have been aware of the unusual positions of the mountain. Travelers are cautioned to have the greatest care of his travels near the volcano.

Icelandic cow came by Vikings. The cow in the picture from Eyrarbakki is entirely the same as the cow seeds Viking period.
